Global Health Global Advising: CGH Scholar Award & Research in Uganda

Join us at Center for Global Health in the Corner Building to learn about the Center for Global Health University Scholar Award which supports interdisciplinary research in global health.

At 5:45, Professor China Scherz will discuss her work in Uganda. China Scherz is an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology at UVa. She earned her PhD in medical anthropology from UCSF and UC Berkeley in 2010. She has been conducting ethnographic research in Uganda since 2007 and she is currently leading a collaborative ethnographic study of alcohol use and recovery in Uganda. During her talk, Prof. Scherz will be speaking about emerging opportunities for students interested in working with Dr. Godfrey Rukundo at Mbarara University of Science and Technology on a digitization and analysis of the hospital’s mental health records (1991 – 2018). She will also speak about her experiences working with undergraduate researchers in Uganda and about building equitable and ethical partnerships with local researchers and communities.
