Studying HIV in Thohoyandou was one of the most valuable experiences in my life thus far. It's hard as undergraduates who are, admittedly, under-qualified in many fields to find opportunities that challenge our skills as well as our perspectives. I feel like I used my time and ability to their maximum effect this summer, but my input was reciprocated ten fold by people I met and the experience's effects on me. My time in Thohoyandou taught me to be a better researcher, traveler, and cultural citizen, and invigorated my desire to continue bringing my studies to new places, both literally and figuratively.
