Dr. Richardson's research highlights the needs of populations society devalues particularly as it pertains to the nexus between the health and learning readiness of children and the role of culturally sensitive approaches to research. Her areas of expertise include qualitative and mixed-method approaches to community-based issues, culturally respectful research implementation in community and global health, and comprehensive health and educational policy analyses. She is site director for the St. Kitts and Nevis collaboration where she has built and strengthened extensive collaborative partnerships which support community research and research opportunities for UVa students. She serves as co-director of the MHIRT (Minority Health International Research Training) grant.
