Pictured is an impoverished neighborhood just outside of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. The residents of the dilapidated huts suffer terribly from the fact that their main source of water is this river, which is swarming with trash and fecal matter. The environment and their inability to change it place them at the mercy of disease and infection, as their greatest necessity, water, ranks among their greatest threats.
