Anita Thompson-Heisterman, RN

Faculty, School of Nursing

Professor Thompson-Heisterman teaches psychiatric mental health nursing clinical and communication skills across programs including undergraduate, clinical nurse leader, masters and post masters nurse practitioner students. In addition she co-teaches the clinical portion of pharmacology and provides guest lectures in her subspecialty of geriatric mental health, and serves as clinical faculty for rural local and global community health sites. She has extensive psychiatric nursing experience in both acute care and community settings. She has held board membership on the local Mental Health Association, is delegate and local chapter past president for the Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International and participated in federal and state policy formulation regarding rural elderly. Her recent research focus has been the use of Appreciative Inquiry as an approach to community centric work in rural South Africa.
