Fireside Chat 2021: Medical Students for a Sustainable Future

Join us on Tuesday, March 9 at 6pm for our first Fireside chat of the semester with Leah, Lena, and Brigette: Medical Students for a Sustainable Future

Featuring Leah Reichle, Lena Bichell, and Brigette Torrise: Medical Students for a Sustainable Future

Interested in hearing how Global Health Equity can be incorporated to your career and future projects? On Tuesday, March 9 at 6pm Leah, Lena and Brigette, will launch our first Fireside chat of the semester (read more about their work in the bio below). The fireside chat will be carried out virtually over zoom and will be a great way to hear about the career paths that experienced professionals have taken to work where they do today. Following a presentation about our presenters’ career paths and current projects, students will be able to personally ask questions about their areas of interest. Consider it a time to ask practical questions and have face time with professionals that are making a large impact at the intersection of research and global health equity. We are especially excited to hear from Leah, Lena and Brigette about how they have put their aspirations for health equity into action within their discipline.

Leah, Lena and Brigette are current medical students at UVA and co-founders of Medical Students for a Sustainable Future (MS4SF). MS4SF is a network of medical students in the United States who recognize climate change as an urgent threat to health and social justice. They admirably put advocacy into action through curriculum reform, research, and climate-smart health care. Leah, Lena and Brigette all have unique paths to medicine, but share the ability to incorporate health equity practices in their career and encourage their peers to do the same. Additionally, Leah and Lena both have experience with the CGHE Scholar program. They have stood in our shoes not too long ago as undergraduates, and therefore the Center for Global Health Equity is both honored and excited to have them speak with us!
